Incarnation: Rediscovering the Significance of Christmas

Hosted by Adult Forum, Mondays at 7:00 pm beginning November 23

In this year of so much discombobulation, what a blessing it is to be approaching Christmas, to be getting ready to receive the most precious gift ever given. This Advent, prepare for the gift by examining your relationship with the Christ.

His parents gave him the name Jesus. But the prophets, the shepherds, the wise men, and the angels addressed him by other names. They called him Lord, Messiah, Savior, Emmanuel, Light of the World, and Word Made Flesh.

In Incarnation: Rediscovering the Significance of Christmas, best-selling author Adam Hamilton examines the names of Christ used by the gospel writers, exploring the historical and personal significance of his birth.

In the face of uncertainty and conflict, Christians reclaim the Christ Child who brings us together, heals our hearts, and calls us to bring light into the darkness. Now more than ever, we invite you to reflect upon the significance of the Christ-child for our lives and world today!

Join us for lively conversation, enduring fellowship, and growing closer to our Lord. Our group is called Faith Matters. We meet via Zoom on Mondays at 7:00 pm. We’ll be starting on November 23 with a look at many of the names that are used to refer to Jesus. Then, on November 30 we’ll begin with Incarnation by Adam Hamilton.  If this sounds like a way to connect with fellow church friends and with our Lord as you prepare for Christmas, please contact Carol Forbes at coastiemom@comcast.net. You can also call 303-665-4104. All are welcome for this wonderful Advent study.

Advent is not only the perfect time to read the story of the birth of Jesus; it’s also a great time to dive deeper into the biblical texts that surround the event. In Light of the World: A Beginner’s Guide to Advent, author, professor, and biblical scholar Amy-Jill Levine shows how the Gospel narratives connect to the Old Testament; emphasizes the importance of Mary’s visitation, the census, the stable, the star of Bethlehem, and the flight to Egypt.
