The new Attention Homes facility is in its final stage of construction and will soon be home to 40 formerly homeless young adults ages 18-24. The Attention Homes Apartments are located on property donated by First United Methodist Church and will provide housing for 40 people ages 18 – 24 years old, complete with supportive services, case management, and community space. For those interested in contributing, the 40 apartments are to be furnished with items on the Attention Home’s wish list. Follow the link provided to the Amazon Wish List for the Apartments: https://tinyurl.com/attentionshopping (as well as at www.attentionhomes.org). In addition they would welcome donated art pieces for their walls.
Brief History
Attention Homes has always been responsive to the evolving needs of youth facing homelessness in our community. In the 1960s, youth who couldn’t live at home because of domestic violence or family breakups were sent to detention centers for housing. Established in 1966 with the mandate to provide ‘attention, not detention’ to displaced youth, Attention Homes has served over 12,000 young individuals as they become healthy, productive members of our community.
Relationship with Mountain View United Methodist
Mountain View United Methodist Church of Boulder has been a long-standing faith partner with Attention Homes. In the past, cooking groups from the congregation have made meals for the youth at Attention Homes on a monthly basis. Mountain View has also provided generous donations of much needed wish list items such as socks and feminine products. This year, the church shared some of the proceeds from the Easter gift with Attention Homes. They appreciate very much the support from Mt. View. To continue that support, Mountain View will contribute part of the Christmas offerings in December.
The apartments will be furnished with new items from the Amazon wish list but there are also needs for their transitional housing program which can accept used furniture which will be collected promptly by contacting Ashley Langley at 720-943-7415.
