Advent Cometh, Already!
The season of Advent is all about anticipation as we prepare to celebrate Jesus’ birth.
We look ahead – People, Look East
We pray for our savior’s arrival – O Come, O Come Emmanuel
We look for Christ’s light in the world – The People That Walk in Darkness
We prepare for his coming – Prepare the Way, O Zion
We listen for the angels – Angels We Have Heard On High
We decorate our homes – Haul Out the Holly
Well, perhaps Haul Out the Holly is stretching it a bit, but it does tie into the theme for Advent and Christmas this year: We Need A Little Christmas. This song by Johnny Mathis, made famous in the Broadway musical Mame, speaks to many of our Advent and Christmas themes we’ll be referencing this year. I hope you find something meaningful each week! Look in your weekly email from the church to find out what we’ll be offering for Christmas Eve. Here’s a hint: bundle up!
How exciting it is that our bell choir, Wesley Ringers, has begun meeting to rehearse together, and is preparing to record several pieces for you! And our Chancel Choir is also meeting and has a few wonderful selections for you as well!
We are following all the necessary safety guidelines. Although it makes it sometimes challenging for the logistics of it all, it’s been wonderful to be together to make glorious music. Recently we are practicing music for Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, and even looking forward to Lent and Easter. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if by then we could be back together again and celebrate Easter with a most glorious festive Resurrection service? I do hope and pray that that may come to pass.
You’ve seen the mailing in our last newsletter about ways you can become more involved in the church. One of the ways is to participate in our musical offerings. As I’ve mentioned, the Bell Choir and the Chancel Choir are meeting, and all it would take is a call to the church or an email to me that you’d like to receive information on this. Or you can let me know that you play guitar or drums or even the radio – I’ll find a way you can participate in music here! I look forward to discovering new ways to keep our worship and this church vibrant and timely. Your opinions matter greatly to me. Let me know how I can best serve, and how all of our music ensembles can be a richer part of your lives.
I am honored to serve this church. Mountain View has such a wonderful history. And its future is as bright as the best parts of its past. Let’s continue to look forward and make ourselves available to participate in worshiping God in this place and the world. I look forward to hearing from you of any ideas you have, and ways that we can all bring word of God’s love and grace to this congregation, the community and beyond.
With excitement to celebrate Christ’s coming, I wish you all God’s blessings.
