Light of the World: A Beginners Guide to Advent

Pastor Stephanie is joining with two of the chaplains at Frasier Manor, Revs. Kelsy Hill and Karen Howe, to lead a Zoom Advent study based on a book by Amy-Jill Levine. Participants from both Mt. View and Frasier will be able to access the study. The class will be offered on Mondays at 1:00 or Wednesdays at 7:00 pm beginning on November 30. You can order a book from Amazon, Cokesbury, or the church if you reserve a copy by November 15.
Advent is not only the perfect time to read the story of the birth of Jesus; it’s also a great time to dive deeper into the biblical texts that surround the event. In Light of the World: A Beginner’s Guide to Advent, author, professor, and biblical scholar Amy-Jill Levine shows how the Gospel narratives connect to the Old Testament; emphasizes the importance of Mary’s visitation, the census, the stable, the star of Bethlehem, and the flight to Egypt.
