Sermon: “The Threshold and Beyond,” by Pastor Sarah Merchant
Scripture: 2 Corinthians 5: 17-20
Theme: In everyday life we step through thresholds all the time- the door to our house, the edge of the shower, the moment from waking to sleeping. We don’t often think about the commitment we make to living beyond these thresholds until perhaps we come upon a new one, a threshold of commitment, newness, adventure, and the unknown. As we recognize these important lines, we must ask, what’s next? Do I keep going or stay still or turn around?
Communion and confirmation represent sacred thresholds through which we are invited to step and then continue in exploration, humble listening, and receiving abundant grace and love. Why do we move beyond these thresholds? What do we learn from coming upon them?
