It is that time of year when we start to think of leaves falling, the smell of turkey and pumpkin pies baking in the oven, Christmas… Wait, did I just say Christmas?!?
Yes, it is time to start putting some very important music related dates on your calendar. As we approach the Advent and Christmas seasons, I want to share with you some ways for you to help our Mountain View Music Department prepare and take part in the holiday season. Now is the time to start planning. And remember, planning is everything!
Christmas Festival Choir – We always ask members of the congregation to join with the Chancel Choir in singing music for the Mountain View Sings worship service, the Musical Christmas Gift, and the Christmas Eve service.
Mountain View Sings takes place on Sunday, December 15, at both the 9:00 and 10:30 worship services. We will have a dress rehearsal on Saturday, December 14 at 10 am in the Sanctuary.
On Christmas Eve, we will sing the Musical Christmas Gift at 6:30 pm and move right into the 7:00 pm worship service. Because we have some Chancel Choir members who cannot attend on Christmas Eve, we really could use help from some congregation members in helping us fill up the choir loft!
Rehearsals to prepare this music will begin on Wednesday, November 13, at 7:00 pm in the Sanctuary. We will rehearse the Christmas music first in rehearsal and the Christmas singers can leave when we begin work on the Advent music. As we get closer to Christmas, we will ask you to stay longer.
All-Congregation Christmas Caroling – We will be singing carols for the residents of Boulder Manor Senior Center and the assisted living residents of Frasier Meadows. We will begin with a soup lunch for the carolers immediately following the 10:30 am worship service. We then will drive or walk to those facilities to sing for about half an hour – Boulder Manor at 12:30 and Frasier Meadows at 1:30 pm. Following our singing, we will return to the church for some cookies and beverages. We had a great turnout of about 40 singers last year and we had a great time. All are welcome (including kids), no rehearsals are required, and I will provide Christmas Carol books.
Boulder Philharmonic presents Messiah by G.F. Handel – This favorite oratorio will be presented on Sunday, December 22, at 2:00 pm in the Mountain View Sanctuary. It is advised that you get your tickets in advance. Visit the Boulder Philharmonic web site for further info.
I know that many of you cannot make a full-time commitment to the choir, but this is a great opportunity for you to have a great time in serving our church and our community with the wonderful sounds of Christmas music. Please contact me via email or voice mail to let me know how you would like to help us out. Oh, and by the way, have a great Thanksgiving!!
