That means it is time to welcome back Christ’s Carousel, our Sunday School program for kids ages 3 through the 5th grade. We also enjoy the return of Fun Club, our monthly parent’s night-out event that draws a good-sized crowd from the preschool and the wider community. Plans have been started for Children’s Sabbath, Bible presentation for our third graders, our Spooktacular Fall Festival, and even our Christmas pageant! The to-do list is long, and I am ready to go. Are you?
“Share your time, share your talents
Share all your stuff so everyone has enough
Share God’s love, and forgiveness
Share everything good thing you have!”
Rainforest Adventure VBS
This is the chorus from one of those VBS songs that creeps into my head from time to time, seemingly out of nowhere. I found myself singing these lyrics the other day as I was cleaning up lingering VBS supplies, and thought these words are a good reminder as we come into the new school year.
“Share everything good thing you have” can be an overwhelming statement. Between work, school, sports, piano lessons, and family time, it can often feel like we have nothing left to share. But I challenge each of you to consider sharing a little of yourself with Mountain View this year, and with the children in our congregation. It might seem like a daunting task, but everyone has something to share! You do not have to be a master teacher to lead Sunday School — you just have to be willing to share a little of your time, a few of your smiles, and lots of God’s love. We don’t need experienced camp counselors to help out at Fun Club or Vacation Bible School — we just need people willing to share some of their energy to keep everyone happy and safe. And we aren’t looking for anyone to give up hours and hours of their time — whatever time you can share with our programs is much appreciated!
I know it can be frustrating to reply to the endless requests for volunteers. But if everyone does one thing, then no one is left doing everything. This year, please plan to share a little of yourself with our children’s ministry programs. Our kids, our families, and our church will thank you!
