Mountain View Small Group Explores Immigration Issues
When people of faith talk about immigration and refugees, we sometimes have challenges with the terminology and the topic even though we know that Christians are called to welcome the stranger. Do you have the same challenges?
Maybe you don’t know how to start a conversation. Maybe the terms “refugee,” “asylum,” “DACA,” or “dreamers,” are confusing. Maybe you are nervous talking about this to another Christian because we see things differently
Maybe you don’t feel knowledgeable enough about the topic to have a good discussion.
Regardless of where you find yourself, we want you to know that there’s someone you can talk to about all this. We are a UMW Study group that meets monthly. We work to learn more about immigration, so we talk about current events, programs, magazine articles, and people that we hear about in the news. We want to help people in need, so we support Mt. View Outreach programs for refugees and local organizations like Casa de Paz in Aurora. All virtual, of course!
We meet monthly on Zoom, and we have a plan for a Lenten study (a daily brief scripture reading). If you would like to learn more in a place of grace, then join us! Email Trudy at mabelgygi@yahoo.com to learn more.
