“There is nothing more to be said or to be done tonight, so hand me over my violin and let us try to forget for half an hour the miserable weather and the still more miserable ways of our fellowmen.” ― Arthur Conan Doyle
During our June and July hymn sings I could not help but be thrilled by the energy that was being projected by those that showed up a little early to take part in singing our favorite hymns. It seemed to me that we were forgetting, for just a short while, about the concerns of our world and were caught up in song. Making music has that ability.
“Music is the language of the spirit. It opens the secret of life bringing peace, abolishing strife.” ― Kahlil Gibran
I am so looking forward to the concert on Friday, August 17 at 7:00 p.m. by the African Children’s Choir. There is nothing so inspiring as listening to children from halfway around the world singing and dancing with joy. Given the totally different living conditions in current day Africa, I am amazed by the energy that these kids bring. I hope we have a great turnout for this event.
“Music is the great uniter; an incredible force; something that people who differ on everything and anything else can have in common.” ― Sarah Dessen
I have to admit, I don’t know as much about my Chancel Choir, Spirit Singers, and Wesley Ringers as I should. I try not to ask them about their politics or their feelings about the many issues that are dividing our country right now. All I know is that we come together once a week and make music about the influence of God in our lives. We have formed a special bond and really are a musical family. I would love to have more people join us each week. See the text block below with rehearsal times and when we will resume rehearsals.
“A man should hear a little music, read a little poetry, and see a fine picture every day of his life, in order that worldly cares may not obliterate the sense of the beautiful which God has implanted in the human soul.” ― Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
It doesn’t matter in what style of music or poetry or artistic composition you partake. Just give it a try and see what it does for you.
“Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything.” ― Plato
