Advent is the season of preparing for the coming of the Messiah. In some traditions, this time of preparation is so sacred that there is no Christmas referenced until Christmas Eve — it is truly a time of preparing. We light an Advent Wreath, waiting with anticipation as each week another candle is lit, waiting for the circle to be complete. We drape the Sanctuary in blue, the color of hope, as we wait for the promised coming. But this year, this year….
We need a little CHRISTMAS, right this very minute! I’m not willing to wait until December 24. I need the joy and fulfilled promises of Christmas. Throughout Advent, we will pay attention to and honor the traditions of advent, but we will also celebrate Christmas!
Using the Broadway song, We Need a Little Christmas, Right This Very Minute, each Sunday of Advent we will look at a stanza from that song, a tradition of Christmas, and one of the scriptures that tell about the coming of the Messiah, remembering that those scriptures have already been fulfilled.
We will combine expectation with joy, because 2020 demands a little Christmas!
Merry Christmas!
