Room for All Musical Styles by Steven Burchard
You have all heard about the upcoming summer worship schedule, which features a single 10 a.m. worship service each week from June through August. It is very important to us that we feature all of our musical styles during each and every service. So this will mean that we will integrate the contemporary music of our 9:03 service with the more traditional music of the 8 and 10:30 service.
This means that on some Sundays, our prelude and postlude may be done by organ or piano, and on other Sundays, by our praise band, Head for Home. The same will apply to our special music. And our hymns will be a blend of traditional hymns and praise songs. Each musical style will be represented each Sunday. We have done this with great success on special services, like our recent Music Heritage Sunday service. But this will be our first time trying it for an entire summer. Our music staff looks forward to the challenge and hopes that our worship will meet the varying musical tastes of our congregation.
We plan on continuing our summer tradition of having our women’s choir, Seraphim, sing once each month. We also would like to have a men’s ensemble sing at least two times this summer. And we will have our Wesley Ringers hand bell choir play on the second Sunday in July and August. If you are interested in singing with either choir or ringing with the bells, please contact me for further info.
We also always have room for new members in Head for Home. If you would like to help lead our congregation in contemporary worship music, please contact director, Rebecca De La Vega. And, if you would like to sing solo music during worship, we can fit you in to our schedule.
We have had great success for the last three summers doing a monthly hymn sing. This will take place on the third Sunday of each month at 9:45 am. We will sing favorite hymns from either of our hymnals. We are looking forward to having a vibrant blend of music for you this summer. We hope to see you all in church!
