I have always loved autumn! I think I love it because I was always so excited for school to start, to learn new things, meet new people and just get going again! I am feeling that same excitement this year as we plan our fall time here at the church! My renewal leave felt much like the summer vacations of my childhood, and I am ready to get going!
We will kick things off on September 11 with a two-part sermon series, Growing Together. These first two weeks will be dedicated to coming together as church and reminding ourselves of our roots. There will be a potluck brunch on Septmber 11, following the 10:00 am service (see cover about the worship schedule for the fall). After we spend a couple of weeks remembering and reconnecting, we will study Jesus for several weeks using the book by Diana Butler Bass, Freeing Jesus, as a basis for the series. Bass explores how our understanding of Jesus can continue to grow throughout our lives. This growth will open our understanding of our lives as Christians. We will have stewardship time to end October. November will be a time to look at a few of the sections of the Old Testament: law, history, prophecy, before we begin building a living nativity for Advent.
All of that is just worship! There will be classes, fellowship activities, service opportunities, and much more to become involved in! How will you become involved? Our roots are only as deep as everyone’s involvement. I know it can be hard to try things, but I want to encourage you to give it a try this autumn. If you see something you might be interested in but just aren’t sure, feel free to contact me or another staff member (you can find our contact information at the end of the newsletter) and ask what to expect. We will be happy to explain what the expectations are and help you find a place to connect.
I look forward to growing with you this autumn season!
