Green Earth Team News

Thank you to all who celebrated the ten-year anniversary of the solar panels. It was a fun event and a beautiful day outside to be together.

Special thanks to members who have offered to cover the initial costs of the lighting retrofit that was recommended by the City of Boulder’s energy  auditor. Their $1,500 gift will pay back in a few years and will reduce our lighting energy use by another 50%.

Our Green Earth Team joined with a others and asked Bishop Oliveto to support the creation of a climate/creation justice task force within the Mountain Sky Conference. The initial group met with Bishop Karen on Earth Day and she supported the idea whole-heartedly. The task force is forming now. It will be a challenge to bring together our diverse conference but we are excited to do this. If you are interested, let us know.

Starting in September, the steering committee of the Green Earth Team would like to offer a Sunday school-type discussion group once a month. This will be open to anyone interested in joining. We hope to offer it every second Sunday of the month during the new community time between the two services. We plan to meet in Frasier Parlor North approximately 9:30 – 10:25 am. The first meeting of this new offering will begin on September 12.

We plan to discuss Bill Gates’ latest book, How to Avoid a Climate Disaster: The Solutions we Have and the Breakthroughs We Need. Our steering committee has six copies of this book that we are happy to share with anyone who wants to read them and return them. Please contact Mary Beth at mzmbeth@gmail.com if you want to be on the list or borrow one of the books. We hope that people will read this during the summer and come to our discussion with ideas and questions and comments to share. Please join us even if you haven’t read the book by September, you are sure to learn something!
